Plank tiles bring a real sense of warmth to a kitchen floor, their long, narrow shape taking its cue from a traditional timber floorboard.
For the floor, large format porcelain is the practical choice, available in wood, stone, cement, and plain effects, and easy to wipe clean through daily use. A plank tile also works well on a splashback or surround, bringing texture to the room's busiest wall. Since the kitchen sees more spills than any other room in the house, a tiled surface remains the most sensible way to protect it. In a larger kitchen, running the planks lengthways tends to give the most natural, flowing result underfoot. A patterned splashback works wonderfully alongside a plank floor, giving the kitchen two points of considered detail rather than one.
