Grey has earned its place as one of the great neutral bases in tiling, adaptable enough to sit behind almost any other colour or material you bring into a room. The range runs from a pale, near-white grey that reads almost as a soft white, right through to a much deeper, near-charcoal tone at the other end.
A lighter grey tends to open up a smaller room and works well as a quiet backdrop for bolder furniture or accessories, while a deeper grey brings a more grounded, cocooning feel to a larger space. Because it sits so comfortably alongside wood, stone, brass and most other colours, grey is often the safest starting point if you are still deciding on the rest of a scheme.
