Anthracite sits in that narrow band between grey and black where a tile can look properly moody without tipping into starkness, deep, smoky and just a little dramatic. It reads as considerably warmer than true black, which makes it an easier colour to live with day to day while still giving a room real presence.
We see it used most in minimalist bathrooms, where it grounds a scheme without feeling cold, and in industrial-inspired kitchens where its smoky tone sits naturally against exposed metal or timber. A hallway that needs a bit more character than a standard neutral can take anthracite very well too, especially paired with brass fixtures or warm lighting to soften the overall effect. Matt and lightly textured finishes tend to suit anthracite best, holding on to that smoky depth rather than bouncing light back the way a high-gloss surface would.
