Red brings real confidence to a kitchen, working just as well as a bold splashback behind the hob as it does as a considered accent elsewhere in the room.
For the floor, large format red porcelain is the practical choice, available in wood, stone, cement, and plain effects, and easy to wipe clean through daily use. A decorative red tile works beautifully on a splashback or surround, and pairs gorgeously with warm timber or crisp white cabinetry. Since the kitchen sees more spills than any other room in the house, a tiled surface remains the most sensible way to protect it. Red also has the advantage of hiding everyday marks and splashes better than a much paler tile. A matte finish tends to suit a working kitchen better than gloss, since it shows everyday marks less readily.
