By October, there’s no mistaking the change in season. The mornings have a little more bite. The light has shifted. With the autumn equinox behind us, the days are getting shorter and the evenings darker. Summer feels firmly over, and we’re spending more time indoors as autumn settles in. Windows that have been thrown open for months begin to close. Lamps are switched on earlier. The sofa suddenly looks much more appealing than the garden chair. We start craving interiors that feel warmer, richer and altogether more cocooning. Summer’s breezy blues and fresh whites don’t have to disappear, of course. But this is the time of year when burnt terracotta, forest green, plum, ochre and coffee brown start looking especially good.
