A kitchen floor has to survive spilled sauces, dropped pans, and near-constant footfall, and tile has always been the sensible answer to that problem. Large format options bring fewer grout lines into the mix, which means a floor that stays looking its best with far less effort.
Wood, stone, cement, and plain porcelain effects all suit this scale, giving a working kitchen the flowing, expansive feel that a large tile does best. In a smaller kitchen, the same format can make the room read as noticeably bigger than it is. For splashbacks and surrounds, a smaller decorative tile still has its place, bringing in colour or pattern behind the hob or sink where a large format tile would feel like overkill.
