The Onyx Tile Trend: Elevating Your Space with Luxurious Design

In the world of interior design, few materials can offer the opulence that onyx does. This wonderful natural material is formed from mineral-rich water that seeps from the ground, and can be found in caves or at mouths of springs across the world.

As the Houzz 2025 Emerging Trends Report clearly highlights, the demand for spa-level bathrooms is stronger than ever, and onyx tiles are leading this charge with searches increasing on Houzz by a staggering 1,069%.

This article explores how this elegant tile option can transform your living spaces, and showcases the beautiful range of tiles in this effect that we offer.

Embracing The Onyx Look:

Onyx tiles are celebrated for their eye-catching appeal and unique textures. The reflective surfaces of onyx bring a true sense of tranquillity and opulence, creating a boutique hotel vibe that we can't get enough of. Onyx is also formed in a large range of vibrant and sometimes unnatural-looking colours.

No two pieces of onyx are the same, and this is part of what makes the material so special. At Baked Tiles, we love onyx for it's versatility: it can be used for a spa-like bathroom, but it also makes a great kitchen splashback, or a sweeping feature wall. If you feel like fully embracing the drama, you can opt for both walls and floors tiled in onyx, creating a space that is truly immersive.

Our Onyx Tiles Range:

Curated Casino Royale Jade 60cm x 120cmCurated Casino Royale Ocean 60cm x 120cmCurated Casino Royale Rose 60cm x 120cmCurated Casino Royale Pearl 60cm x 120cm

The Baked Tiles onyx effect tile range is perfect for achieving the luxe feel of onyx, but in a porcelain format, making it so much easier to maintain than the real thing. Our two collections, Casino Royale and Onyx, have a wide colour range, ensuring you can incorporate onyx into whatever design style you choose.

  • The Neutrals: The neutral onyx tiles are the classics, bringing a hint of quiet luxury and hotel chic. Casino Royale Beige and Casino Royale Pearl are a great base for a spa-like bathrooms with their subtle tonal variation, and Onyx Mist steps it up a bit with dramatic yet subtle veining.
  • The Blues: Reminiscent of the sweeping ocean waves, blue onyx tiles are a staple for coastal bathrooms. Onyx Lagoon wows with its subtle blue-green tones, and Casino Royale Ocean brings a warmer, almost purple-tinged tone, with traces of mineral deposits that would be left behind on the real material.
  • The Green: Nature never limits itself, and our Casino Royale Jade shows how far real onyx colours can range. With its beautiful range of green tones and red tinges, it is the perfect showstopper for any bold space, and one of our favourites here at Baked Tiles.
  • The Pink: Casino Royale Rose is a stunning blush shade, the only tile you need to create a captivating bathroom or kitchen. It works great with black accents or greenery.

How to Style Onyx Tiles:

Our interior designers have created some mood boards that show how onyx can be combined with other tiles to create a wide variety of design styles:

In both of these coastal inspired combos above, Onyx Lagoon takes centre stage. On the left, our designers have paired it with the serene Nature Wood Natural wood effect porcelain tile, and the popular Journeyman Zellige White, which adds some texture to the scheme. They have selected multiple grout colours from our collection that perfectly match the tiles, which helps to draw attention to the beautiful tile effects.

On the right, Onyx Lagoon has been paired with our Khadi Earthen patterned tile, creating a bolder scheme that would work perfectly in a smaller space. The coastal vibe is continued with our Marrakesh Terracotta Light Matt, which draws out the orange tones in the patterned tile to create an impactful scheme.

Casino Royale Rose can be styled in several ways. You can either pair it with tiles that draw out it's pink tones for maximum effect, or pare it back with more natural tones and textures. On the left, our designers have paired it with Woodland Parquet Natural and Journeyman Zellige White to create this beautifully airy scheme.

On the right, they have chosen to draw out the pink tones with Vanguard Plaster, a lightly glazed brick style tile. As they have demonstrated, you can take this scheme a step further by introducing the subtle off-white tones of Vanguard Parchment, which could be laid in a stripe with Vanguard Plaster to create a look which is totally on-trend.

The Summary:

Incorporating onyx tiles into your home allows you to create an element of luxury that is both timeless and current. Our onyx effect tiles are the best way to get the look, without the price tag and maintenance associated with real onyx.

Whilst design trends continue to shift, we can say with confidence that the desire for onyx won't fade. It's a beautiful natural material, making it both timeless and buildable as a base for whichever interior style you choose.

When choosing an onyx effect tile, we advise that you consider your personal style, the natural light in your space, and the look you are aiming to create. This will help you to perfectly incorporate onyx into your interior.
